How to Make the Most of Your Time…and Why You Should

Do you ever wonder how some people achieve magnificent things while many others don’t? Just about everyone has heard the saying that life is short, but few really stop anymore to examine its deeper implications. In this article I would like to do just that, take a deeper dive in the implications of wasting too much of your time. Sometimes we can change our actions and habits just by getting a new perspective. If you feel like you waste too much time or tend to procrastinate too often, then maybe this information will be the small adjustment you need to get time on your side.

In order to get a new perspective on time, we first need to realize exactly how much time is given to each of us. I recently came across the following information and wanted to share it. It definitely gave me a new perspective on the way I look at time from just reading it once. Try it on for size, see if your perspective on time changes as well.

Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day.
Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course?

Each of us has such a bank. It’s name is TIME.
Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds.
Every night it writes off as a loss, whatever of this you have failed to invest in a good purpose.
It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day.
If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against “tomorrow.”

You must live in the present on today’s deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success!
The clock is running!! Make the most of today.

Are you on board with this? Does this move you to want to invest your time differently than you do today?

There are mothers, fathers, boys, girls, the handicapped, sports players, artist, musicians, teachers, poor people, rich people, people of all races, etc., doing all kinds of amazing things every day with only the same amount of time you have. Do you ever wonder how they get so much out of their time and life while many of us get so little?

Life really is short and by the end of it, many people feel that they did not have enough time to do the things they really wanted too. However, by then it is too late to do anything about it.

How about you take a moment right now to reflect on your life and consider your thoughts if you were to die tomorrow:

  • What are the things you wish you would have spent more time doing?
  • What special people do you wish you would have spent more time with?
  • What people do wish you would have forgiven sooner or patch things up with?
  • What exciting things or experiences did you miss out on?
  • Do you wish you spent more time with your wife, husband, children, relatives, etc.?
  • What foods did you want to try and did not?
  • What places did you want to visit?
  • What things are you upset about now but would no longer make sense if you are going to die tomorrow?

As with all changes we want to implement, the first step is awareness. Please feel free to share any ideas/actions you believe  may help others to make the most of their time?
