Learning how to make my own pizza dough was something that I wanted to do for a long time. I grew up in a family that hardly ever baked. In fact, we typically only used the oven to just warm things up. So that was the extent of my baking experience…Today, I bake all sorts of things and in this article, I will show you how to make really nice pizza dough the easy way.
When I got married, I wanted to learn how to bake so I bought myself a bread maker to get started with. I used the recipe that came with the bread maker and to my surprise, my bread making didn’t end up the way I wanted it to. The bread came out as hard as a brick and it was a bit discouraging, but still I kept on trying. I made bread after bread or should I say brick after brick after brick. I could have easily helped the three little pigs build that brick house.
Finally, after many tries, I decided it was not going to work out unless I find a better recipe or a bread Guru to show me how to make the bread.
Now it has been ten years since my last bread making days. Never once did i think about making a bread until a friend of mine invited me to her house. To my surprise she had a fresh bread baking in the oven. It smelled wonderful. She took the bread out and it looked amazing. I really wanted to know how she made it as I watched her slice it. My friend brought out some butter and served a slice to all of us. The bread was so delicious. Nothing like a fresh bread.
As we were eating, I decided to tell her my horrible experience with making bread. To my surprise she had the similar experience. Can you believe it. After hearing that, I have to say I was quite relieved that I was not the only one having this problem. Then she recommended a great bread making book and gave me the page to the recipe she made her bread from. After I left her home, I went straight to the store and bought all the ingredients, and made the bread. It was not that difficult at all, but rather easy. Just needed a good recipe and better instructions to make amazing fresh bread. It looked like bread, felt like bread, tasted like bread. It was just as I imagined it. I was very pleased.
Successfully accomplishing bread making gave me a whole new level of confidence to do more baking. I could not wait to try my next baking project; making pizza! It was very easy, all I had to do was use the same recipe as I did to make the bread but instead of letting it rise into a bread shape, I had to flatten the dough to a circular shape and whalla! Making your own pizza or making anything is so much healthier than getting it from the store or eating out since you know what ingredients you have put vs not knowing. I am trying out new recipes all the time. If I had given up, I would have never got to experience this. Like anything in life you have to start out somewhere and get better.
Ingredients:
- 1 package of organic yeast
- 7 cups of organic all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of oil
- 2.5 cups of water
Start out with 2 cups of warm water, then mix in the yeast and set it aside for 15 minutes. While waiting get a different bowl to mix all the dry ingredients. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the warm yeast water and mix it up. Then knead it until firm. Make it into a big ball. Once you are done with kneading leave it in the same container but cover the container and let it sit at room temperature for about 2 hours or until the dough doubles in size. Happy cooking!!!!!!!!
