Vegetarian Samosa Recipe with Video!

Samosa is clearly the favorite appetizer in my family and is usually finished in minutes whenever I make some.  I grew up eating Samosas only on special occasions in Nepal. Now that I know how to make my own Samosas, I don’t have to wait for a special occasion and nor do you! All you need to do is have the right ingredients and follow my samosa recipe below to make delicious Samosas.  Feel free to use organic ingredients, which is what I do. Enough with the small talk, lets go and make some delicious Samosas!

Keep in mind that there is really two basic parts to making Samosa, the crust and the inside filling. Both parts take a little bit of preparation in order to make your Samosas taste great. You can see me do it in the video below and use the written instructions below as a reference while you make your Samosa.

Here’s my video on how to make vegetarian Samosas:

1. What You Will Need (The Ingredients):

Samosa Dough Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  •  2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/4 cup  lukewarm water

Samosa Filing Ingredients:

  • 2 medium size boiled potatoes, chopped or smashed.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/2 cup green peas (frozen)
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped in tiny pieces.
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

2. Samosa Instructions:

Samosa Dough:

1. Mix all the dry ingredient. Flour and Salt.

2. Add the oil. Mix it well.

3. Add water to the flour. Knead the dough for 3 to 5 minutes to make the dough smooth and easy to roll out.

Samosa Filing:

1. Coat the pan with oil. Heat the pan on medium high.

2. Add Turmeric Powder.

3. Add Onion

4. Add Cumin

5. Turn the heat to low.

6. Add chopped up or smashed potatoes and mix it all.

3. Making Samosa, Putting It All Together:

1. Need small bowl of water to seal the samosa

2. Knead the dough to soften it up.

3. Divide the dough into four equal size. Make it into 4 balls.

4. Roll the dough in circle and cut the circle in half.

5. Get a plate out to place your Samosa. Sprinkle it with flour so the Samosa does not stick to the plate.

6. Pick the half circle and put some water with your index finger to half of the straight line. Then make it into cone shape.

7. Fill the cone w/ filling. Push down the filling gently with your fork. Then seal the top by wetting your index finger with water.

8. Repeat until you have finished all of your dough.

9. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep frying pan on medium heat. To check if the oil is ready, sprinkle a pinch of flour in the oil. If it sizzles, then the oil is ready.

10. Carefully place the Samosa in the oil.

11. Turn the Samosa over once it has turned light golden color. Let it cook on both sides.

12. Enjoy!!!
